What is a 3D Product Packshot?

A 3D Product Packshot creates glossy visualisations of your products. It reproduces your products in 3D in a digital environment and makes them look better and richer. That is why this type of graphics is used in advertising and marketing campaigns. Thanks to the technique used, the graphics take on the most attractive appearance for the target customer.

The best solution is to commission a chosen company to do the job. If, however, you want to do the project yourself, I will briefly explain how. The first stage is creating the textures and the 3D model – for this you can use, for example, the free Blender program or Adobe's paid suite of 3D graphics tools. Next, we need to prepare the material with which we will cover our model. Once the materials have been applied to the model, it is time to add labels/logos or whatever else you want. Finally, we add lights, and all that remains is some light post-production in, for example, Photoshop.

Why is a 3D Product Packshot one step ahead of traditional photos?

  • Creating 3D packshots is a simplified process. In this case, you do not need to look for a professional photographer.
  • You can make changes to products that have already been modelled (colours, shadows, additional elements, etc.).
  • You do not need to have the product made – you can have just an idea, which the service of your choice can easily visualise.
  • Presentations of your products can be visualised in different settings, lighting or weather conditions.
In summary: you do not need to manufacture the product or look for a professional photographer. You save money, reduce risk and save valuable time, while receiving a full range of high-quality 3D product renders.

Uses of the 3D Product Packshot

This type of graphics has found its use in advertising and on websites. Wherever we look, whether on television or on billboards, we can often see 3D Product Packshots.

How is a 3D Product Packshot created?

The best results are achieved by turning to professional services. There are many companies on the market dealing with 3D visualisation, ranging from fully automated ones to those that work by hand from start to finish. The quality of the service is reflected in the price. We must remember that a team of specialists will always achieve better quality than fully automated software.

What is CGI?

Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is the use of computer graphics to create images in art, print media, video games, simulators, computer animation and visual effects in films, television programmes, short films, advertisements and videos. Nowadays, CGI can be found practically everywhere! The latest films use CGI to a greater or lesser extent. For example, in Marvel action films CGI is an everyday matter. In advertising breaks, on websites – everywhere!

Uses of CGI

Because of its low cost, CGI is often used in:
  • Films,
  • Television programmes,
  • Advertisements,
  • Computer games,
  • All kinds of graphics.

How is CGI created?

Using a film as an example, I will describe how a CGI production is created:
  • First, the artist has to design the scene and the models.
  • Once the storyboard is finished, the artists work on the look of the film. At this stage, the outline of the production is already more or less visible.
  • At this point, the characters and their surroundings are modelled on the computer and then textured.
  • Next comes the so-called layout. Once the virtual camera has been placed, each model is positioned at the appropriate angle.
  • Animators handle the movement of the characters and in this way bring them to life. They place the background behind the characters and models.
  • Finally, specialists light the scene, paying attention to the smallest details.
